Delete your DUNE account and data

Last updated: 20 September 2026

You can delete your DUNE account and the data attached to it. You do not need the app installed to do it, and you do not need to sign in to read this page.

Two ways to delete your account

In the app

Account → Settings → Delete account.

You’ll be asked to confirm, and to re-authenticate. Deletion starts immediately.

From this page

If you no longer have the app installed, or you’d rather not use it, email support@dunexplore.com from the email address on your DUNE account with the subject “Delete my account”. The form at the bottom of this page fills that email in for you.

Tell us the phone number you registered with. We’ll verify it’s you before we delete anything — usually by sending a code to that number. We have to: a deletion request we act on without checking is a way for someone else to close your account.

We’ll confirm within 7 days that the request has been received and acted on.

What happens when you delete

Your account closes immediately. You’re signed out, your profile stops appearing in discovery, and nobody can book you or message you.

Anything you had booked is cancelled, and the other person is refunded under our Cancellation & Refund Policy.

Then:

WhenWhat goes
Deleted straight awayProfile, photos, bio, Activity list, preferences, favourites, blocks, device tokens
Deleted within 15 daysChat messages
Deleted within 90 daysNotification history, app usage and analytics records
Deleted or anonymised after 180 daysEverything else not listed under “what we keep” below

Backups

Deleted data can persist in encrypted backups for up to 90 days before those backups expire and are overwritten. It isn’t accessible in the product during that time.

What we keep, and why

Some things we cannot delete on request. Each has a reason, and none of them are used to keep serving you.

Booking and payment records — 7 years

Required under Indian tax and accounting law. GST records generally run to 72 months from the annual return, and income tax assessment can reach further back. These are transaction records: amounts, dates, tax. They are not your profile.

Records held for 180 days after deletion

The IT Rules, 2021 require intermediaries to retain registration information for 180 days after an account is withdrawn, so that investigations and disputes already under way can be answered.

Reports and safety records

Where you were reported, or you reported someone else, we keep what is needed to protect other people. Deleting your account cannot erase a safety record about you — otherwise deletion would be a way to clear your history and start again. What counts as a breach is set out in our Community Guidelines.

A verification reference, if your account was removed for a serious violation

DUNE allows one account per person, checked at signup. If you delete your account voluntarily, this does not apply — your record is released and you are free to sign up again later.

But if your account was removed for something on our zero-tolerance list, we retain a reference held by our verification partner that lets us recognise the same person registering again. It is not a photograph and not a face template; your face cannot be reconstructed from it, and it is used for nothing else. We keep it because a safety removal that can be undone by deleting and re-registering protects nobody.

Anything we are legally required to keep

Or that we must retain to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.

If you had money on DUNE

Read this before you delete — some of it cannot be undone.

  • Pending payouts are still paid. Earnings you have properly earned are released as normal, less any deductions, once any dispute window has passed. Give us payout details that will still work.
  • An active Gold or Elite membership does not automatically cancel. It’s billed by Google Play, so cancel it in the Google Play Store, not here (Play Store app → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions). Deleting your DUNE account does not stop Google charging you.
  • Unused membership days are not refunded.
  • Deletion does not cancel a dispute you have already raised, and does not refund anything already spent.

Coming back later

If you deleted your account voluntarily, you can sign up again with the same phone number. It starts fresh — your old profile, photos, reviews, rating and booking history are gone and cannot be restored.

If your account was closed by us for a breach, you cannot create a new one.

Delete some of your data, without closing your account

You don’t have to close your account to remove something. Most of it you can do yourself, in the app:

  • Photos — Profile → View & edit profile → tap a photo → remove. Deleted straight away.
  • Bio, interests, and the optional details (height, religion, diet, drinking, smoking, and the rest) — clear the field and save. None of them are required.
  • Location — switch the permission off in your device settings. Bookings and check-in PINs still work.
  • Blocks and favourites — undo them where you made them.

For anything you can’t remove yourself — old booking records, chat history, verification records — email support@dunexplore.com from the email address on your DUNE account, and tell us what you want deleted and the phone number you registered with. We verify it’s you before deleting anything — usually with a code to that number.

We’ll respond within 7 days. Your account stays open and everything else is untouched. Some records can’t be deleted on request — booking and payment records we’re required to keep for tax, and safety records. Those are listed under “What we keep, and why” above, with the reason and the period for each.

Other things you can do instead of deleting

You may not need to delete at all:

  • Take a break — turn off Companion mode, or hide your profile from discovery, and keep your account. What Companion mode commits you to is set out in the Companion Agreement.
  • Block someone — Profile → Block. They can’t contact or book you, and you disappear from each other’s feeds.
  • Ask for a copy of your data — email support@dunexplore.com and we’ll send you what we hold.
  • Correct something — most of it you can edit in the app; email us for anything you can’t.

Request deletion by email

Please send the request from this same address so we can confirm it is you.

This cannot be undone. We’ll confirm within 7 days. See our Privacy Policy for what we keep and why.
